Kachkanarsky Ore Mining and Processing Enterprise
EVRAZ KGOK is one of the top five largest ore mining enterprises in Russia. It is located approximately 140 kilometres from EVRAZ NTMK, in the Sverdlovsk region. EVRAZ KGOK develops the Gusevogorskoye deposit of titanium magnetite ores that contain a vanadium alloy component, allowing production of high-tensile alloyed steel products.
The Kachkanar mountain is the only source of vanadium-bearing iron ore in Russia. Vanadium is a valuable alloy component increasing the quality of steel while reducing its production cost. A geological survey of the ore deposit began in the early 1930s. In 1956, the Soviet government resolved to construct a mining and processing plant at Kachkanar. In due course KGOK became one of the leading ore enrichment plants in the USSR and Europe.
The enterprise’s annual output is approximately 55 million tonnes of iron ore. EVRAZ NTMK is the primary consumer of the enterprise's products.
EVRAZ KGOK currently obtains iron ore from three open pit mines further processing it in crushing, enrichment, sintering and pelletising workshops. Final products (sinter and pellets) are loaded on to railcars and shipped to end consumers including those abroad.
In 2015, EVRAZ KGOK produced about 3.5 million tonnes of sinter and 6.5 million tonnes of pellets.
