EVRAZ Consolidated West-Siberian Metallurgical Plant (EVRAZ ZSMK)
EVRAZ ZSMK, the eastern-most steel mill in Russia, is the largest steel mill in the Siberian region. In terms of production levels it is is among the five biggest steel plants in Russia, the thirty largest steel plants in the world, and the top-five global rail manufacturers. EVRAZ ZSMK's products are sold across Russia, the CIS and to over 30 countries globally, and EVRAZ ZSMK is the general supplier of railway products for JSC Russian Railways.
As of 1 July 2011 JSC EVRAZ – Consolidated West Siberian Metallurgical Plant combined ZSMK and NKMK. EVRAZ ZSMK comprises both a construction mill and a rail mill.
In 2015 ZSMK produced 5.8 million tons of pig iron and 7.1 million tons of steel.
Construction Mill (former West-Siberian Metallurgical Plant)
The construction mill facilities cover over 3,000 hectares in Novokuznetsk (Kemerovo region).
The construction mill, or Site 1, is an integrated steel plant which utilizes classic production technologies: production of pig iron from iron ore, production of steel using the oxygen-converter method, production of various types of plate in plate shops, and production of semi-finished products using continuous casting machines. Tight control over all production phases guarantees a high quality of both steel and finished products.
Site 1’s output consists mainly of commodity long products from plain steel grades of low-alloyed steels: rebars, rod etc., as well as structural steel (equal angles, beams, channels etc.), and continuously cast and hot rolled slabs and billets.
Rail Mill (former Novokuznetsk Metallurgical Plant)
The Rail Mill is located in Novokuznetsk (Kemerovo region). The site is one of the largest manufacturers of a complete range of rails for both Russian and international markets. Railway, tramway and underground rails are manufactured here.
The site comprises an electric furnace shop with two continuous casters, a rail and beam shop, and a long products mill.
Production of new rail types – including heavy-duty and high-speed rails - started in recent years, and performance tests have proven a quality competitive with international benchmarks. The facility applies a unique defect detection technology including three-stage inspection to ensure maximum compliance of the rails with international quality standards.
In 2009 EVRAZ started a large-scale upgrade of the rail and beam shop, and in October 2010 upon completion of the first stage of modernization the plant became the first Russian manufacturer to produce 25-meter railway rails with breakthrough quality.
In November 2013 EVRAZ was granted a compliance certificate for the 100-meter head-hardened rails allowing the Company to launch mass production in this market. In May 2014 the first lot of Russian-made 100-meter rails was shipped to Oktyabrskaya Railway.
The facility’s complete range of steel products includes over 100 sections and sizes to meet market demand, and in addition to rails the site produces a substantial volume of long products.
The quality of EVRAZ ZSMK production is maintained on a stable level fully satisfying consumers’ requirements. This is guaranteed by an integrated management system certified in accordance with the international corporation ‘Bureau Veritas Сertification’.
EVRAZ ZSMK has twice been a winner of the Government of Russian Federation Award for its’ production quality.
