Raspadskaya
Raspadskaya is one of the leading suppliers to the largest Russian steel mills, including NTMK (Nizhniy Tagil Iron & Steel Works), NLMK (Novolipetsk Steel), MMK (Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works). It also exports coal to Ukraine and Eastern Europe (Romania, Hungry, Bulgaria).
In 2007, Raspadskaya produced 13.55 million tonnes of raw coking coal.
History
The Raspadskaya mine commenced operations in 1973 with a production capacity of approximately 2 million tonnes per year. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, in 1991 ZAO ''Raspadskaya" was organised, 100% owned by its employees as a result of the privatisation of the Raspadskaya mine. The period from 1991 to 1994 was marked by the deterioration in technical and economic performance due to overall decline in Russia's economy as a result of the collapse of the planned economy and transition to a market-based economy. In 1994, the current management team took control over business operations of the mine, and developed and implemented a programme of production efficiency enhancement for the period from 1996 through 2005 which sought to increase production volume, increase labour productivity and reduce production costs: renovated existing facilities, purchased new equipment, as well as acquired new production and processing assets.
In November 2006, OJSC Raspadskaya had an IPO, placing 18% of its charter capital with investors in the Russian Federation and with qualified investors in certain other countries.
